Sponsorship

They might be the shortest, they’re certainly the youngest, but Andover Hockey Club’s Under- 8s are already proving that they’re a force to be reckoned with. And with former adult club members representing Great Britain in competition, it just goes to show that from small acorns, grow great oaks.

Andover Hockey Under 8s

Today’s players are currently flying high after an impressive show at the Mini’s Festival in Romsey. Two Andover teams competed in a tournament against Winchester, Bournemouthand and Southampton amongst others. Playing ten games between them, the two Andover sides won eight, drew one and lost one match.

It’s testament to a thriving youth section that’s nurtured by club leaders and it goes to show that a sporting legacy is alive and well in Andover. The original men’s hockey club was founded in 1895 and since then, play has only been halted for the two World Wars when members were forced to put their country ahead of hockey. Now they ‘fight them on the’ all-weather pitch at Charlton Leisure Centre; their official grounds since 1985.

There’s been recent success too for Andover Ladies first team. They go into the second half of the season brimming with confidence and looking to maintain their unbeaten run, as they look to challenge Yateley for the top spot in the Hampshire League.

The men’s first and XI are in the Hants/Surrey Regional Leagues with the Men’s third XI in the Hants Open League. There’s even a veterans’ team representing Andover in theWessex Masters League.

Now there’s an added boost to the Andover teams – having just signed a three-year sponsorship deal with HugoFox.com, the Club can only go from strength to strength. With an active social calendar and a real sense of ‘family’ within the club, they were obvious beneficiaries for HugoFox.com sponsorship. It’s not all ‘jolly hockey sticks’ but it will be a merry Christmas and here’s hoping a winning new year for all at Andover.

Jem Tennis signs new deal with local listings site, HugoFox.com

Making tennis fun and affordable to everyone is the aim of Jem Tennis based in Hamble, and the club has just been given an extra financial boost from a new three year sponsorship deal with local listings company HugoFox.com.

The money will help the club maintain the four new courts as well as the general running of the club and the new clubhouse, which opened in May 2010.

Chairman of HugoFox.com, Michael Thompson, says he was impressed by the passion and drive of the Jem Tennis team and their fresh approach to providing teaching and coaching for all ages and abilities, he explains:

Local listings company HugoFox.com has really pushed the boat out with its recent sponsorship of a fantastic cause – and there’s nothing watery about it!

The Hamble Sea Scouts in training

When approached by the Hamble Sea Scouts regarding a new sponsorship affiliation with the Club, the main question on all our lips was “where will the banner go?”, but resourceful as they are, the HugoFox.com logo will soon be proudly displayed on all seven of the team’s water polo kayaks as the website teams up with the Scouts for a three year deal commencing in 2012.

As one of the most active Sea Scout groups in the country, the Club currently has thirty active Cub Scouts, fifty Sea Scouts and forty Explorers on board (literally)! Stepping into their headquarters is like stepping aboard HMS Win-a-lot: the trophy cabinets are fit to burst and the pride of their leaders is just as swollen – and with good reason. It’s a thriving club moored in the very heart of this small sailing village near Southampton, and given that there have been Sea Scouts in Hamble for over a century, it’s a great cause which HugoFox.com is glad to support.

It’s not so much ‘what do they do?’ as ‘what don’t they do?’ with the Club: led by fully-qualified and experienced leaders, young people from across the area can take part in swimming, rowing, surfing, power-boating, sailing and even tackle white-water courses. For those who are more landlubbers, there are shore-based activities such as camping, shooting, hiking, pioneering and cooking.

There are about 350 Sea Scouts Groups in the UK, and only 100 of these are recognised by the Royal Navy – and Hamble’s one of them. It means that they can fly the Blue Burgee and a Defaced Red Ensign, which they do with great pride.

HugoFox.com founder Michael Thompson commented: “When Hamble Sea Scouts approached us, we were all intrigued – we just had to go and see what they were about. What we found was the most amazing array of water-sports available and a team of hugely dedicated and inspirational leaders. We’re definitely going to have to be pool-side for one of their kayak polo clashes!”

John Dyke from Hamble Sea Scouts added: “We would like to thank HugoFox.com for their support. It’s greatly appreciated and we can only offer the range of activities we do thanks to help from organisations such as them.”
