Hamble Sea Scouts

On Saturday 31st March, the Hamble Sea Scouts’ B and C teams readied their paddles for the penultimate kayak polo tournament at Cheltenham Leisure Centre.

The Hamble Sea Scouts get set to face some difficult competition...

Facing some difficult competition and lively games, both teams nevertheless performed well, showing great spirit and sportsmanship throughout the day.

The B team’s games were fairly evenly matched, and the results were close in all but one of their games. In this, their third game, the action was very fast-paced and presented a challenge for the team. They played as a five-team defence to maximise their opportunities, but unfortunately they lost by quite a large margin.

The C team played consistently throughout the tournament and, despite coming up against some tough opposition, provided some entertaining games and impressive goals.

In the final game, the B and C teams were pit against each other. Commencing with good humour and healthy competitiveness, the match was great fun for the teams and Hamble supporters alike. The score came in at 3-2 to the B team, but it was a close thing!

Well done to everyone who took part, from all the HugoFox News team!

HugoFox.com gets the thumbs up from Hamble U18 Sea Scouts

HugoFox.com got a big thumbs up last weekend when a series of polo kayaks were unveiled bearing the company’s logo.

Always keen to get involved with supporting community projects and sports teams, local listings website HugoFox.com signed to a three year deal with the Hamble Sea Scouts, with funding going towards the upkeep of club.

As one of the most active sea scout groups in the country, 6th Itchen Hamble Sea Scouts have thirty cub scout members, fifty sea scouts, forty Explorers and an active network section of around twenty members. At last weekend’s meeting of the Under 18s team, the Club came away fourth from the top of the BCU South West Youth Canoe Polo League, and hope to continue upping their game as the season goes on.

Seven polo kayaks donned the new sponsor's logo at last week's match

Team member Victoria Poolman told HugoFox news:

“We are delighted to be supporting such a great local club, and although we whole-heartedly back our football, cricket and rugby teams, it’s great to be sponsoring a more unconventional sport and helping more young people get involved.”

Local listings company HugoFox.com has really pushed the boat out with its recent sponsorship of a fantastic cause – and there’s nothing watery about it!

The Hamble Sea Scouts in training

When approached by the Hamble Sea Scouts regarding a new sponsorship affiliation with the Club, the main question on all our lips was “where will the banner go?”, but resourceful as they are, the HugoFox.com logo will soon be proudly displayed on all seven of the team’s water polo kayaks as the website teams up with the Scouts for a three year deal commencing in 2012.

As one of the most active Sea Scout groups in the country, the Club currently has thirty active Cub Scouts, fifty Sea Scouts and forty Explorers on board (literally)! Stepping into their headquarters is like stepping aboard HMS Win-a-lot: the trophy cabinets are fit to burst and the pride of their leaders is just as swollen – and with good reason. It’s a thriving club moored in the very heart of this small sailing village near Southampton, and given that there have been Sea Scouts in Hamble for over a century, it’s a great cause which HugoFox.com is glad to support.

It’s not so much ‘what do they do?’ as ‘what don’t they do?’ with the Club: led by fully-qualified and experienced leaders, young people from across the area can take part in swimming, rowing, surfing, power-boating, sailing and even tackle white-water courses. For those who are more landlubbers, there are shore-based activities such as camping, shooting, hiking, pioneering and cooking.

There are about 350 Sea Scouts Groups in the UK, and only 100 of these are recognised by the Royal Navy – and Hamble’s one of them. It means that they can fly the Blue Burgee and a Defaced Red Ensign, which they do with great pride.

HugoFox.com founder Michael Thompson commented: “When Hamble Sea Scouts approached us, we were all intrigued – we just had to go and see what they were about. What we found was the most amazing array of water-sports available and a team of hugely dedicated and inspirational leaders. We’re definitely going to have to be pool-side for one of their kayak polo clashes!”

John Dyke from Hamble Sea Scouts added: “We would like to thank HugoFox.com for their support. It’s greatly appreciated and we can only offer the range of activities we do thanks to help from organisations such as them.”
