Don’t sit on the couch all summer – get involved at Basingstoke’s Learning Through Sport for a holiday that’s packed with fun and games

For all budding young sportspeople in the Basingstoke area, here’s a great reason to step away from the X-Box, put down the Wii bat, and turn off those Pokemon reruns! Throughout the summer holidays, the Basingstoke Town Football Club will be hosting a summer holiday play programme, giving youngsters the chance to work on their skills in football and a vast range of multi-sports activities besides. So if you fancy working to become the next David Beckham, now’s your chance!

Run by Hampshire-based company Learning Through Sport, the summer holiday scheme is open to all children of 5-11 years of any ability, and will take place on the newly refurbished Astroturf courts of Basingstoke Town Football Club. But it’s not only football that the kids will get to try out, as each day will also feature kwik cricket, handball, netball, and ultimate dodgeball, as well as many other popular multi-sport games.

As Learning Through Sport’s Matt Beckingham told us, “The School Summer Holiday Play Scheme programme is a fantastic way for boys and girls aged 5-11 years old of all abilities to have fun and improve their skills in football and a vast majority of multi-sports activities. The children will learn lots of new skills in a safe and engaging environment, increase their confidence, and learn to work as a team. They’ll also have the chance to win certificates and prizes.

All staff are qualified coaches, trained in first aid and child protection, and all hold enhanced CRB checks. Parents or carers with any concerns or queries need not hesitate to contact Matt at or by phone on 02380 328326.

The courses will run from 10am-3pm on the following dates:

Week 1: Tuesday 24th, Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th July 2012.

Week 2: Tuesday 31st July, Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd August 2012.

Week 3: Tuesday 7th, Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th August 2012.

Week 4: Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th August 2012.

Week 5: Tuesday 21st, Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd August 2012.

It’s worth booking early to secure your child’s place on this fantastic programme, as places are limited and will be allocated on a strictly first come, first served basis. What’s more, if you book before 16th July, the cost per child per day will be a mere £10! After 16th July, the price will go up to the usual £11. But whenever you book, make sure it’s at least 24 hours before the day(s) you require. There’s also a special discount rate of £8 for a sibling joining their brother or sister on any day of the course.
