Hampshire Farmers’ Markets seek chairman to champion local produce

Earlier this week, HugoFox News reported on the bounties of Hampshire Farmer’s Markets, which bring delicious, locally sourced food to locations throughout the county each and every weekend. The markets are certainly great places to pick up fresh, high quality nibbles, but shopping is not the only way that people can get involved – lovers of local food who are ready to muck into management will be excited to hear that Hampshire Farmers’ Markets (HFM) is currently on the hunt for a new chairman. This fantastic opportunity will see the successful applicant go from customer to champion, sharing their passion about local food and farming with the wider public.
The voluntary role of HFM chairman is an exciting and fulfilling one. Not only does the post involve chairing board and stallholder meetings, but it also gives the candidate the opportunity to attend events as the company’s leading representative, raising public awareness of the HFM’s aims and policies. The chairman ensures that the needs of local producers are made known on local, regional, and national platforms, so that the county’s grassroots farmers and producers gain increasing support throughout the country. A Hampshire hero indeed!
Current chairman and HFM producer Toby Bowtell has been a HFM board member for a total of ten years, first as a serving director and now as chairman. Rotation requires him to stand down later this year after four years in the post, but he is still enthused about the position. “Looking back, it has been a splendid four years in the chair,” he says. “Hampshire Farmers’ Markets has a supportive membership, a hardworking, committed team and board, which has made my role all the more interesting and stimulating. Hampshire Farmers’ Markets is on a sound footing with exciting challenges ahead; this is a wonderful opportunity to champion the wealth of Hampshire produce.”
The county certainly has a huge amount to offer in the way of local food. HFM runs over 100 markets in 13 towns throughout Hampshire, making it one of the largest multi-sited farmers’ market operators in the country. The markets offer produce from well-loved local names including the likes of Beechcroft Lamb and Beef, Blackmoor Estate produce, Fonthill Glebe Wines and Matillda‘s gorgeous cakes, to name just a few of the 120 farmers and growers affiliated with HFM. The organisation plays a vital role in giving these producers the crucial opportunity to sell their goods direct to the public. Working under the maxim ‘Strictly Hampshire’, the markets showcase only those foods and goods that come from the county or within 10 miles of its borders. What’re more, when customers buy at a Hampshire farmers’ market they are guaranteed to be dealing with the producer or someone directly involved with the production, and no bought-in merchandise is allowed. Consumers therefore know they are getting only the best, freshest, local food to take home for their table – and at the best value too!
That’s why Hampshire Farmers’ Markets are one or the country’s most successful independently run farmers’ market groups – and as such, the organisation takes great pride in promoting local food with trade organisations, consumers, and the media. Do you share the same enthusiasm? Do you want to help the producers of Hampshire thrive, and the people of the county fill their larders with wholesome local grub? If so, then take a look at the full job listing on HugoFox.com, which includes further information about the HFM chairman role. Applications are open, so there’s no need to wait!
