At HugoFox News HQ, we’re not afraid to admit that comedy may not be our strongest point, but when it comes to finding guaranteed laughs, look no further than our events listings to put some fun into your evenings.

HugoFox.com has a great variety of comedy shows listed for the coming weeks, so why not gather some friends and head out for a night of laughter. It is the best medicine after all!

There’s something for every taste and genre. See below for a selection of different comedy events, starting with a fantastic free event where you could catch a glimpse of the next big thing in UK comedy.

You Must Be Joking Heats

Tuesday 19th June and Wednesday 27th June – 8.15pm

Balcony Bar, Corn Exchange Newbury

You Must Be Joking aims to find the next big thing in UK comedy with acts competing for a place in the final and £500 prize money. The heats offer audiences the chance to hear 5 minute routines from up and coming comedians and vote through their favourites to the final.  Previous winners of the competition have appeared on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, had sell-out Edinburgh Fringe shows and won prestigious comedy awards.  So why not head out for a free night of new comedy, share a laugh with friends, support your local comedy scene and potentially get the first glimpse at the next David Mitchell or Russell Howard?

Improvised Comedy

Kepow Theatre’s Charity Olympic Improv Show

Friday 6th July – 8pm

Pegasus Theatre, Magdalen Road, Oxford

If you like comedy, randomness and raising money for charity then this is for you! Kepow Theatre’s show invites the audience to compete to inspire the funniest improvised scene. This could be anything you like. From seeing a Dalek substitute teacher to ‘dad dancing’ as an Olympic sport, anything could happen! The audience member whose scene is highest scored will win a £5 note framed and signed by the cast, and a stick of celery. Who could say no to that?

As well as offering you a night of truly random comedy the profits of the show will go to the winning audience member’s charity of choice. Comedy and philanthropy, could there be a better mood-boosting combination?

Musical Comedy

From Amateur Transplants: Adam Kay’s Smutty Songs

Wednesday 11th July – 8pm

Arlington Arts Centre, Newbury

If Tim Minchin is more your thing then Adam Kay is for you. His grand piano stylings and smutty songs have sold out tours and Edinburgh Fringe sessions. Called “Genius” by Radio 1, his cutting-edge and darkly humorous imaginings of pop and rock classics have earned him a cult following in the UK. With more 20 million hits on YouTube and a consistent presence in the iTunes top 10 since 2008 this is one act not to be missed.

You can check out Adam’s famous London Underground Song on Youtube.

Please note this event is best for people aged 16+

Comedy and…curry?

Comedy Curry Evening

Friday 6th July – 7.30pm

Wyvern Theatre, Swindon

If you fancy an evening where you can give both your stomach and your funny bone a good workout then how about combining an Indian buffet with up and coming comedy talent? Perfect for a night out with friends, colleagues or family.
