Local listings site, HugoFox.com, helps out with a new sports kit for a Hampshire School.

School leaders present the cheque for a new sports kit in an assembly at St Mary Bourne School near Andover

It was definitely a feel-good Friday for students at St Mary Bourne Primary School in Hampshire when they received some surprise visitors to their assembly.

Michael Thompson and Katy Maxwell from local listings website HugoFox.com interrupted the proceedings to present the Headteacher, Jonathan Nelson, with a super-sized cheque.

The team at HugoFox.com had heard that the school, nestled between Whitchurch and Andover, needed funds for a brand new sports kit that would be used when students represented St Mary Bourne Primary at outside events. There was applause and excitement in the assembly along with much hilarity over ‘how to cash the big cheque’.

Mr Nelson said: “At St Mary Bourne, many of our children have a passion for sport and the sponsorship funding contributed by HugoFox.com will ensure that our children look the part in their new sports kit when representing the school.”

The donation comes as part of efforts by the HugoFox.com to put money into local sports and clubs as a way of giving something back to the communities they serve.

Michael Thompson, founder of HugoFox.com presents Headteacher, Jonathan Nelson, with a cheque for £250.

But there was even more good news when Michael and Katy announced a competition for students to come up with their own fox design that would be their take on the HugoFox.com logo. The winner would receive a brand new camera for their class.

There are also other projects in the pipeline to use the local listings website as a tool for learning about business and developing the skills of any budding entrepreneurs! There are plans for students to have a go at posting their own classified advert so they can see how the process works. The hope is that they’ll be challenged to think about sales techniques and marketing, enticing customers and of course, making a sale!

Mr Nelson says: “All schools have an agenda that encourages pupils to make a positive contribution. For our school this means our children being engaged in decision-making and supporting the community and environment and so the partnership with HugoFox.com is a natural fit for us. We are looking forward to developing this partnership and using the company’s expertise to help us develop some of our own curriculum enterprise projects in the future.”
