On your marks, get set… GO! The race is on between HugoFox.com’s 23 sponsored sports teams to compete for a huge cash injection into their club, as well as the chance to walk away with one of two iPad2s also up for grabs as part of the Fox’s monthly prize draw.

All teams sponsored by HugoFox.com could benefit from a big cash injection when they earn points by posting on the site

Since first launching back in 2011, providing a way for local businesses to recruit in their areas without it costing them an arm and a leg, HugoFox.com has evolved into a local listings website which facilitates FREE advertising for events, charities, cars, classifieds, businesses and much more*.

Now, heavily involved with a number of schools, local projects and fundraisers, and with its heart set on supporting the communities which it serves, HugoFox.com is the proud sponsor of no less than 23 sports teams – providing much needed funding to youth and adult teams across the south, from volleyball to sea kayak polo and everything in between.

Having all benefitted equally from HugoFox.com’s support over the past year, the competition is about to get fierce between the clubs, with this week seeing the launch of a challenge for the teams to gain as many points via posts on the site, in an effort to rack up their score  and compete for a top prize.

Although one lucky team will be benefitting from an additional £1000 to help support their club, no-one is a loser – ALL sponsored teams will have their points converted to cash after the closing date of 18th March. With every point worth two pence and multiples being gained by each listing (most of which are free), this is undoubtedly a fantastic opportunity for local people to really get behind their teams, and earn them some much needed cash – as well as recycling their unwanted goods, cars or using the site to promote their own businesses, events or nearby charities.

As if this weren’t enough of an incentive, with the HugoFox.com team also giving away an iPad2 to one randomly selected ‘postee’ each month, there’s plenty of reason for everyone to get involved, and get listing now!

Founder Michael Thompson told HugoFox News:

“We’re really excited to be involved with so many fantastic teams and the proactive and determined individuals who help to run them. We’ve attended some excellent events and seen great results courtesy of the clubs we sponsor and we know what a difference the injection of further funding could make. We have designed this competition so that it is within their hands to earn as many points, and as much cash, as they can – and for one lucky group, a £1000 bonus as well. Everyone really is a winner in this challenge, and we can’t wait to see the results!”

The competition closes on 18th March 2012. For more information and rules of entry, visit our competition page, or to see all the HugoFox.com sponsored teams, click here.

* Car listings cost £12 and events are £6 when posted by a commercial organisation, and are free for not-for-profit groups.

Big congratulations to Stephen Hallett, who is the second lucky winner of a state of the art iPad2, courtesy of HugoFox.com.

Stephen Hallett is this month's lucky winner of a state of the art iPad2

Having launched a competition at the end of last year, with all who post on the local listings site being automatically entered into a prize draw to win, Stephen’s name was randomly selected as the second lucky recipient of Apple’s latest gadget.

Stephen says:

“Thanks to everyone at HugoFox.com for this great prize! It just shows you why everyone should sign up for their great forum of local services and news alerts. As well as being such an easy, fun and friendly way to connect with local sellers, service providers and business owners – you might even get lucky and land a lovely Ipad 2! I love the fact that my iPad has even got my name on it…(now my wife can’t nab it!).”

As a fan of local sports, it was via his connections with Alton Town FC that Stephen first heard about HugoFox.com:

“I originally found the website as I love non-league football, hence the Alton connection – and since then I’ve had a look on the site for all sorts, especially the car section, which seems to attract lots of good postings. Also I found the local food offers a great source of bargains, particularly the grocery ones – people should keep a keen eye out for them.”

He adds: “There really is no excuse not to register at www.hugofox.com and let the friendly Fox hunt out a great deal, right on your doorstep. It’s so easy anyone can do it and once you start searching who knows what amazing people and products you’ll find. Also take a look at the amount of worthy local causes and groups the Fox sponsors on the news pages. Why use a faceless, coporate megasite when you can get everything you need right here in the community that HugoFox.com connects you to. Happy searching!”

HugoFox.com founder Michael Thompson commented:

“We’re delighted that Stephen has been chosen as our second lucky winner, as he’s a big advocate of all that HugoFox.com offers. It just goes to show that registering on the site is time well spent for anyone looking to buy, sell, advertise or recruit locally. Even better when a lucky winner takes home an iPad2 to boot!”

Why not enter the draw for this month by posting with the Fox now?

Fantastic news for Grayshott FC, with their parish council having recently secured an incredible £23,900 of Olympic legacy funding, courtesy of Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.

A cheque for £23,900 is presented to locals and council officials to refurbish Grayshott Parish Council Sports Pavillion

This means huge things for HugoFox.com’s sponsored U13’s team, with the money being used to refurbish the local pavilion which has facilitated both cricket and football training over the last sixty years.

Indeed, with Grayshott’s Cricket Club having celebrated its 115 year anniversary last season and the Football Club soon recognising their centenary, a new and improved pavilion is the perfect way to commemorate the community’s long sporting history.

The Inspired Facilities fund is part of the £135 million Places People Play legacy programme that is bringing the benefits of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities nationwide, with 350 local community sports groups having already been offered a total of £17.4 million in Olympic legacy funding through the Inspired Facilities Fund.

Sport England’s Chair, Richard Lewis, said:

“This investment will create a fantastic sporting legacy for Grayshott. This fund has really hit the mark with sports clubs in East Hampshire. It shows we’re offering the legacy that people want for their local community. For hundreds of clubs and tens of thousands of people, 2012 will be the year their local sports facilities got better.”

Katie Weir of Grayshott Parish Council commented: “We are delighted to secure the first Inspired Facilities grant, which will enable us to upgrade the quality of our premises to match the quality of our coaches.  The enhanced facility will enable us to grow the number of players in both Clubs which will be a fitting legacy of the 2012 Games.”

Local MP, Damian Hinds, added: “I am delighted that Grayshott is to benefit from the opportunities for British sport generated by the Olympics and Paralympics.  It is so welcome to see this kind of positive encouragement to develop sports facilities locally and I am confident the Inspired Facilities funding will enable the creation and enhancement of sporting facilities that really do inspire more local people to take part and excel in sport.”

The investment into Grayshott’s training venue will breathe new life into tired facilities which have proved difficult to maintain and run. Grants have also been offered to convert existing buildings into venues that are suitable for grassroots sport and to allow local clubs to buy the facilities they use, all of which will make a big difference to youth and adult amateur sports across the UK.

Inspired Facilities has been designed to be as simple and accessible as possible for potential applicants, with a shorter form and a catalogue of ready-made options to choose from. This is the first of five funding rounds of Inspired Facilities; the second round opened on 1 February 2012, offering hundreds more local groups the chance to bid for a further £10 million of funding.

Places People Play is being delivered by Sport England. We are working in partnership with the British Olympic Association (BOA) and the British Paralympic Association (BPA) with the backing of The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and the London 2012 Inspire mark.

Colin Rule is about to undertake one of the hardest races in the world. A far cry from a 5k jog around the local town, or even the London Marathon, this is the mother of all races – a 243km trek across the Sahara – and only six days in which to complete the task. Not a walk in the park, by all accounts.

Two competitors take on the desert and temperatures of 120F to complete their six-day challenge

But Colin is determined to complete the challenge, whilst on a mission to raise money for a charity that’s close to his heart, Asthma UK. And as an associate of HugoFox.com, he has asked for the team’s support to not only raise awareness of the race, but also his mission to raise £770 for a very worthy cause.

Having suffered with asthma and eczema from birth, which meant that Colin has spent much of his life on medication and excluded from sport, he was told he would never even be able to run a cross country race. But, out to prove the prediction wrong, Colin strived to reduce his symptoms and take part in the ultimate challenge.

As Colin’s fundraising page states:

‘I have since played semi professional football, spent eight years as a Royal Marine Commando and raced in triathlons for Hampshire Police. I’ve remained active and been lucky enough to only have mild symptoms since the age of 17.

‘However, I lost my cousin, aged 18, to asthma some years ago and two members of my family currently suffer with asthma. I am sure you know or have relatives that have the condition and the research and support Asthma UK give is invaluable.’

So the obvious way to make a difference emerged on the horizon, and having secured a place on  the 2012 Marathon Des Sables, also known as ‘the toughest footrace in the world’ (www.saharamarathon.co.uk), Colin has just weeks left to prepare for the gruelling challenge.

The finishing line! Or is it a mirage....?

Not only do the competitors have to race a whopping 151 miles (equivalent to almost six marathons), they must also carry everything they will need for the duration on their backs in a rucksack (food, clothes, medical kit, sleeping bag etc) – this can be in excess of 10kg. Water is rationed and handed out at each checkpoint, and without a nearby Tesco to rely upon, all food preperation must be done during the race – so there’s no shortcut, even when exhaustion sets in after a day of running in 120°F on a combination of rocky terrane and amongst sand dunes. And we aren’t lying when we say that’s not the half of it!

Having self-funded his entry fee and equipment, Colin has gone to great lengths to ensure that every penny raised goes right to the heart of where it’s needed. So we are asking anyone out there – businesses, individuals, friends, perhaps even fellow runners – to dig deep into their pockets and contribute a little (or a lot!) to support him in this incredible challenge. And we’ll take this opportunity to wish Colin every success with his marathon mission – don’t forget the Compeed!
